Jun 20, 2023 · The British Overseas Territories are fascinating to me; far-flung remnants of the British Empire which still want to be under UK sovereignty: Anguilla, Bermuda, the BVI, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, Saint Helena, Turks and Caicos, and a handful of even smaller islands.

The UK government retains full sovereignty over them but, in practice, mostly allows them to manage their own affairs except for defence and international relations. Their inhabitants usually have full British citizenship.

The solution is to do as the French do, the bigger overseas territories, can be granted a specific MP, but the smaller ones should be grouped together and form "overseas" constituents. Then with additional "overseas" constituents, where people that vote from abroad is counted from.

Both of the Channel Islands had French language-based legal systems until after the second world war, and as part of their legal training you need to study in France for a while, including being fairly fluent in French in order to understand the old laws.
