A Kentucky man who shot at Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg when he was a candidate in 2022 was sentenced Friday to 17 years and 6 months in federal prison after a tense sentencing hearing where Greenberg spoke of the harm the attack has caused.

Quintez Brown's sentencing comes nearly three years after the 2022 Valentine's Day shooting at then-candidate Craig Greenberg's campaign office.

"It is only a miracle ... that no one was hurt, possibly killed," U.S. District Judge Benjamin Beaton said after a four-hour sentencing hearing.

I don’t know how I miraculously survived,” Greenberg wrote Friday. “Six gun shots fired directly at me from close range by a person I did not recognize.”

Federal prosecutors are calling for Quintez Brown, the man who shot at Craig Greenberg during his mayoral campaign, to receive the max sentence. Brown fired shots at Greenberg in his Butchertown campaign office in February 2022, with a bullet grazing Greenberg's sweater. No one was injured.

The man who pleaded guilty to trying to shoot then-mayoral candidate Craig Greenberg is scheduled to be sentenced today. Quintez Brown, 24, of Louisville, will be sentenced on federal charges of interfering with a federally protected right with a dangerous weapon and discharging a firearm during a violent crime.

Craig Greenberg has previously, and regularly, said he accepted the DOJ report, which followed a wide-ranging "pattern or practice" investigation.
