Aston Villa have signed centre-back Axel Disasi from Chelsea on loan for the rest of the season. Tottenham had also reportedly been in discussions with the French defender on deadline day before he made the switch to Villa Park. Villa had been looking to sign a new centre-back after Diego Carlos’s departure to Fenerbahce in January.

The Midlands giants will pay a loan fee of around £5million for the defender after holding off competition from Tottenham. Spurs were considering a move for the defender too, although they were put off by Chelsea’s loan fee.

Three-time Champions League winner Marco Asensio joined Aston Villa on loan from Paris Saint-Germain on Monday. The former Real Madrid midfielder has signed to the end of the season. He is the second major signing by Villa in the final days of the transfer window following the loan deal for Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.
