A severe snow and ice warning remains in place across the north and southeastern Scotland with a number of schools closed. The yellow warning, which was extended until 10am on Friday, covers much of western and northern Scotland, including Grampian, the Highlands, Orkney, and Shetland.

Snow and icy conditions force about 80 schools to close.

Snow and sleet began to hit southern England on Wednesday afternoon as an amber weather warning came into force, with the Met Office saying further warnings are likely to be issued as the week goes on.

The Met Office has issued several warnings for snow and ice this week, with temperatures plunging to well below freezing in some areas. An Arctic blast has tipped out a massive amount of snow over the last few days.
