While that number demonstrates how tough it is to qualify for Boston, there are plenty of marathons in the United States on the calendar every year, generally from spring to fall. But first, you have to get your head around the idea of pounding pavement for 26.2 miles.

On Patriots’ Day, nearly 32,000 runners will tackle the rolling hills and unpredictable weather along the 2025 Boston Marathon course. Some will be experienced athletes, some will be making their debut at the 129th running of the iconic race, and some will be celebrities and celebrated sports stars.

The unsanctioned race loops through Dorchester, Mattapan, Jamaica Plain and Roxbury. Run crews and community members gather to cheer on runners of all skill levels. And everyone gets to break the finish line tape.
