Vice President-elect will resign his upper chamber seat and trigger a selection process followed by a special election.

Vice President-elect JD Vance has served in the U.S. Senate for less than two years and soon the process will begin to pick his replacement in the upper chamber.

Hours after the race was called by multiple media outlets, including NBC News and the Associated Press, Vance took to social media to thank his family, supporters and running mate.
