Border 2 Fire initially started 1:58 p.m. Jan. 23 in San Diego County. After being active for 47 hours, it has burned 6,624.8 acres, an increase of 125 acres since the last update. A fire crew of 1,177 effectively contained 10% of the fire by Saturday afternoon. The blaze's cause remains under investigation.

Firefighters worked overnight to corral the Border 2 Fire, which spread over some 10 square miles of remote terrain a few miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border and was still only 10% contained Saturday.

As the Border 2 fire races across thousands of acres near the U.S.-Mexico border, San Diego County firefighters are locked in an uphill battle against fierce winds, steep terrain and dangerously low humidity.
