D Gukesh, the 18 year old chess player has become India’s No. 1 chess player and replaced compatriot Arjun Erigaisi, after claiming the fourth spot in the latest FIDE rankings released on Thursday.

Round 6 of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2025 saw Indian players making significant strides. Arjun Erigaisi drew with top-seeded Fabiano Caruana, while Praggnanandhaa and Gukesh also held their ground against strong opponents.
